01. I don't think anybody doubts that: ~를 의심하는 사람은 없다고 생각한다 (I don't think anyone would dispute that.../There is little doubt that...)

Lisa Cook이 모기지 사기에 연루되었다는 사실을 의심하는 사람은 없다고 생각한다.

 

I don't think anybody doubts that I deserve to get a promotion this year.

 

02. get involved in: 어떤 활동, 프로젝트, 문제, 의사결정 등에 참여하거나 개입하다.

 

The president doesn't get involved in those decisions.
대통령은 그런 의사결정에 관여하지 않는다.

 

Our CEO doesn't get involved in this decision, but I'll report this to him afterward.

 

03. be held to the highest possible standard:매우 중요한 위치나 역할이기 때문에 가장 엄격한 기준으로 평가받다.

 

I think that position should be held to the highest possible standard.
나는 그 자리가 가장 높은 기준을 적용받아야 한다고 생각한다

 

I think the CEO should be held to the highest possible standard

 

04. lead into a second question: 하나의 논의나 질문이 자연스럽게 다음 질문으로 연결되다.

 

This leads into a second, more fundamental question.
이것은 두 번째이자 보다 근본적인 질문으로 이어진다.

 

That's a great question, I think this leads to a second question.

 

05. preposterous: 터무니없는, 말도 안 되는(outrageous와 유사)

 

Isn't it a little preposterous to say that the president of the United States doesn't have the ability to make these determinations?
미국 대통령이 그런 결정을 내릴 능력이 없다고 말하는 것은 다소 터무니없지 않은가?

 

Before I missed the meeting, I let them know in advance that I wouldn’t be able to attend. It’s preposterous to say that I skipped the meeting without prior notice.

 

06. work in concert with: 다른 사람이나 팀과 긴밀히 협력하여. (work closely with / collaborate with / work alongside)

 

We work in concert with the Modelling Team.
우리는 Modelling Team과 긴밀히 협력하여 일한다.

 

Our position requires strong communication skills, as we have to work in concert with different teams.

07. sit on high: 높은 위치에서 내려다보며 지시하다

 

I don't think that we allow bureaucrats to sit on high and make decisions about monetary policy.
나는 관료들이 높은 자리에서 내려다보며 통화정책을 결정하도록 허용하지 않는다고 생각한다.

 

Executives should not sit on high and make uninformed decisions. 

 

08. feel strongly: 강하게 확신하다

 

I feel very strongly that the president of the United States is much better able to make these determinations.
나는 미국 대통령이 이러한 결정을 내리는 데 훨씬 더 적합하다고 강하게 믿는다.

I feel strongly that I'll get a promotion this year and graduate with distinction.

 

09. sense: 느끼다, 감지하다, 눈치채다(feel보다 더 미묘한 뉘앙스를 가진다.)

 

He told me that he had made considerable efforts to support my proposal during the discussions. He did not apologize, nor did I expect him to, but I could sense that he felt somewhat sorry about the outcome.

그는 내 제안을 지지하기 위해 상당한 노력을 했다고 말했다. 그는 사과하지 않았고 나도 기대하지 않았지만 결과에 대해 어느 정도 미안해하고 있다는 것을 느낄 수 있었다.

 

10. carry (significant/considerable/little) weight: 비중을 차지하다, 영향력이 크다/적다

 

I would focus my energy on the dissertation instead, since it carries much more weight in my overall degree classification
논문이 전체 학위 평가에서 훨씬 더 큰 비중을 차지하기 때문에 논문에 집중할 것이다.

11. reflect on: 회고하다, 성찰하다, 돌아보다

 

Reflecting on the meeting, I realized there was one thing I could have done better.
회의를 돌아보며 내가 더 잘할 수 있었던 점이 있다는 것을 깨달았다.

Afterwards, I reflected on the conversation and realized that a response such as "Sure" or "Absolutely" might have sounded more enthusiastic and collaborative.
이후 그 대화를 다시 생각해 보며 더 적극적인 표현을 사용할 수도 있었겠다고 생각했다.

 

12. reschedule an appointment: 예정된 약속이나 회의의 시간 또는 날짜를 변경하다.

 

She has rescheduled our appointment several times because she has been extremely busy.
그녀는 매우 바빴기 때문에 우리의 약속을 여러 번 변경했다.

 

13. for quite some time: 한동안

 

* for a long time보다 조금 더 자연스럽고 세련된 표현.

For quite some time, I believed the results would be announced this week.
한동안 나는 결과가 이번 주에 발표될 것이라고 생각했다.

I've been working on this project for quite some time.

 

14. stay in bed: 잠은 깼지만 바로 일어나지 않고 침대에 머물다.

 

I woke up at 5:00 a.m., which was earlier than yesterday. However, I stayed in bed for another thirty minutes.
오전 5시에 일어났지만 추가로 30분 정도 침대에 누워 있었다.

 

15. I can already feel how quickly this experience is passing: 현재의 소중한 경험이나 시간이 예상보다 훨씬 빠르게 지나가고 있음을 실감하다.

 

There is now less than a month remaining before my European trips begin, and I can already feel how quickly this experience is passing.

유럽 여행까지 한 달도 채 남지 않았고, 이 경험이 얼마나 빠르게 지나가는지 벌써 느껴진다.
